Fourteen years
The last thing I published here was September 10, 2012. ASP.NET MVC 4. ViewData. ModelState that refused to show up in a partial. I figured it out, wrote it down, and then I stopped writing it down.
I did not quit. I just kept building things for people who were in the room. Meg’s sites. Work. The house. This blog sat on DreamHost like a box of cables I was going to sort this weekend.
Blogs are still a thing. So is this domain. So is the shop.
The line
The tagline on this site has been the same since I registered it: No Monkey Business. Just Good Code.
The house line grew.
Code No Evil. Fly No Evil. Smoke No Evil.
Code No Evil is this shop. Fly No Evil is the other one — aircraft, not a metaphor. Smoke No Evil is not a brand of flower and it is not a joke I made up for a t-shirt. It is the same rule applied to a market that quotes the bag and hopes you do not do the division.
The problem
New Jersey legalized adult-use cannabis. The public menus are real. The prices on those menus are also real. What they are not is comparable.
An eighth at 18% THC and an eighth at 32% THC can sit on the same shelf for the same dollars. That is two different products with one sticker. Quoting the bag hides that. Quoting dollars per gram of flower is better. Quoting dollars per gram of THC is the number I actually wanted when I walked into a shop and tried to decide whether I was being a mark.
So I built a tape.
Garden Spot
Garden Spot is the spot price of legal cannabis flower in New Jersey. Same idea as a gold quote. The unit is dollars per gram of THC. The headline number is the median of listed sale prices, before tax, from public product pages.
Rec and med. North, Central, South, and Down the Shore. Confirm the shelf before you drive. Adults 21+.
I do not sell flower. I do not sell rank. I do not invent a price that is not on a public page. Code No Evil, LLC publishes the compilation. The shops own their menus.
It runs on a Mac mini in the house with Cloudflare in front, which is a long way from the CloudFormation template I used to overbuild for Meg, and also not that far. Same job: keep the site up, print the number, do not get cute.

The RSS feed never died. Neither did the shop. I just had nothing I wanted to put on the front page until I did.
